Metcalfe County Board Meeting Summary
EDMONTON, Ky. (May 14, 2020) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. The meeting was streamed online at www.metcalfeschools.com and SCRTC channel 95.
Superintendent Benny Lile started the meeting by introducing special guest Kerri Schelling, executive director of the Kentucky School Boards Association. Schelling, who joined the meeting via Zoom video conferencing, announced the Old School Café was the spring 2020 recipient of the Public Education Achieves in Kentucky (PEAK) Award. The PEAK Award was established in 1997 to focus statewide attention on outstanding public school efforts that enhance student learning skills and promote the positive impact of public elementary and secondary education in Kentucky. The Old School Café reopened Wednesday, May 13, 2020, for the first time since closing for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Lile also announced alternate plans are in place for graduation and baccalaureate service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Seniors will pick up their caps and gowns curbside and record a personalized commencement ceremony that will be edited and broadcast May 29 on www.metcalfeschools.com and SCRTC channel 95. A virtual baccalaureate service will air on May 28. A traditional graduation ceremony is planned for Dec. 13.
On the agenda, board members unanimously approved the closeout forms for the MCHS HVAC and lighting projects, an addendum to the 2019-20 certified and classified evaluation plans, insurance renewal for the 2020-21school year, indirect cost rate for the 2020-21 school year, salary schedule for the 2020-21 school year, 2019-20 audit contract, GRREC membership renewal for the 2020-21 school year, and the tentative budget for the fiscal year 2021.
In addition, Dr. Lile announced the 2020 Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching award winners from Metcalfe County: Ms. Lindsey Thomas (MCES), Ms. Lea Ann Parnell (MCMS), and Ms. Karan Linkous (MCHS). Recognitions are sponsored by Alliance Corporation, RBS Design Group, and Glass & Thompson Insurance.
The next board meeting is Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at 6 pm at the Metcalfe County Board of Education on West Stockton Street.
