EDMONTON, Ky. (June 17, 2022) – The Metcalfe County girls and boys youth basketball camps wrapped up a successful week on Thursday, June 16. There were 160 registered participants from kindergarten through 8th grade.
Both camps started on Monday with students learning skills from current and former Hornet and Lady Hornet basketball players and coaches. MCHS alumnus and former University of Kentucky basketball player J.P. Blevins was a guest speaker.
Head Coach Brandon Brockman said, “It’s a thrill for our young kids to learn from a former Wildcat and one of the best players to wear the Hornet uniform. It gives them hope of one day achieving their dreams, whether that is on or off the basketball court. We have a bright future here in Metcalfe County.”
Heidi Coleman is beginning her first year as head coach of the girls basketball team. Coleman is a former Metcalfe County Lady Hornet and was selected as a high school All-American by Parade Magazine, WBCA, AAU, and the National High School Coaches Association. She went on to play basketball for Wake Forest University.
“It’s encouraging to see the love for basketball start so early for these kids,” Coleman said. “Our coaching staff is excited to be able to work with them from the ground up. We have some great future players in this group!”
Both coaches thanked the community for its support. The basketball camps wouldn’t be possible without help from sponsors and local businesses.
There will be more camp opportunities for Metcalfe County students later this summer. Cheerleading Camp starts on Monday, June 20. Volleyball Camp is July 23, and Football Camp is August 4. Registration forms are available at http://www.metcalfeschools.com.
