EDMONTON, Ky. (December 13, 2021) – National Honor Society students and Service Learning students at Metcalfe County High School recently spread Christmas cheer to more than 100 kindergarten students at Metcalfe County Elementary School.

The high school students celebrate each holiday throughout the school year with kindergarten students completing math, literacy, crafts, and games to help promote higher learning. Many children look forward to the "Wrap Up and Read" event, usually held during the Christmas holiday.

The high school students give the kindergarten students books and hand-made blankets to make them feel comfortable while reading and listening to their favorite stories. The event also ensures the younger children have a gift for Christmas provided by someone who cares for them.

"The intention of this program is to foster a love of reading in young students, as well as provide kindergarteners with a role model amongst our high school students," said NHS sponsor Kelly Shaw. "Each year, the students of MCHS embody the true spirit of Christmas with their kindness and giving of time as they hand make every blanket and purchase the gifts themselves."

The Christmastime event wouldn't be complete without a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Each child had the opportunity to talk to Santa and get their picture taken.

This was the 9th year for the "Wrap Up and Read," which started in 2012.
