Metcalfe County High School Hires Greg Stephens as New Girls Basketball Head Coach

EDMONTON, Ky. (August 10, 2021) – Metcalfe County High School announced today Greg Stephens will be the new head coach of the girls basketball team.

 

Stephens has served as a coach and teacher for more than 30 years. He recently coached boys and girls basketball at a school in Florida, where he also served as associate athletic director. He previously coached in Kentucky at McLean County High School, Lexington Catholic High School, and Webster County High School.

 

Stephens said he is looking forward to returning to the Bluegrass State and continuing the success of the Lady Hornet Basketball Team. “My family and I are beyond excited to be joining the Hornet family, a family that is filled with rich tradition and overall support from the school district and the community,” Stephens said. “I am excited about the future and potential of our program and the opportunity for our athletes to be able to shine and play at the next level.”

 

Metcalfe County High School Principal Clint Graham said Stephens has the experience, knowledge, and passion for the game of basketball. “Most importantly, he loves and cares for students,” Graham said. “He has proven he is willing to invest in the lives of our youth today. We are very confident that Coach Stephens will not only carry on the winning tradition at MCHS but will develop our student-athletes into successful citizens.”

 

Stephens’ achievements on the court include winning district and state titles in Kentucky and winning a national championship at a prep school in Nevada. “I’m looking forward to bringing new ideas and expectations to Metcalfe County that will not only continue the traditions of the district but will help build a solid program from youth to high school,” Stephens said.

 

Stephens grew up in Western Kentucky. He and his wife Kerri have five children and nine grandchildren.
