Board of Education Meets in Special Session, Discusses Superintendent Josh Hurt's First Year

METCALFE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

                                                   

EDMONTON, Ky. (June 4, 2021) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in special session on Thursday, June 3, 2021, which served as the board’s monthly meeting.

 

Superintendent Josh Hurt presented his first-year Capstone Project to the board, which concluded his new superintendent training. Dr. Fred Carter, director of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, and Dr. Kirk Biggerstaff, superintendent of Cumberland County Schools, attended the presentation.

 

Dr. Carter congratulated Mr. Hurt on finishing his training and renewing his superintendent certification. “I’m going to continue watching Metcalfe County with a great deal of pride, interest, excitement, and enthusiasm about what’s coming for you,” Dr. Carter said. “You’re just scraping the surface of what you’re capable of doing. There’s going to be good future days and years here at Metcalfe County.”

  

On the agenda, the board approved Superintendent Hurt’s annual evaluation. Board chairman Joey Shive read from the report. “The board has been very pleased with the work and effort of Mr. Josh Hurt. We feel he maintains complete integrity and works for the benefit of each student in the Metcalfe County School District,” Shive said. “We believe that the district will continue to move forward in a positive manner and that under his leadership, we will continue to improve and provide the education necessary for our students to be ready for whatever path their future holds.”

 

Also on the agenda, the board approved surplus auction to begin June 14; approved starting the process to secure funding for a new bus garage and multipurpose facility; and approved hiring architects for the high school bleacher replacement project and District Facility Plan.

 

The board approved the 2021-22 certified and classified evaluation plans, awarded bids for spare bus parts, tires, and fuel, accepted the KETS (Kentucky Technology Education Systems) third offer of assistance for $8,541, and set board meeting dates for July 2021 through December 2021.

 

The next board meeting is Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 6 pm.
