Board of Education Holds May Meeting, Votes to Approve the Implementation of Senate Bill 128

School Board Meeting

EDMONTON, Ky. (May 12, 2021) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

There were several items on the agenda, including Senate Bill 128, which allows school districts to create a Supplemental School Year Program. The board approved the motion in a unanimous vote.

Approximately 60 Metcalfe County students applied to take part in the repeat year program. “The number of students interested in the supplemental year represents about 4% of total student enrollment, with the majority of applications from the high school,” said Superintendent Josh Hurt. “We are confident we can create individualized schedules that will meet the needs of each student taking part in the Supplemental School Year Program.”

Also on the agenda, the board approved the 2021-2022 employee salary schedule, the tentative budget for the fiscal year 2022, and a virtual option for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade. Virtual options for students in grades 5-12 do not need board approval.

The board recognized Student of the Month Haylee Samuels. Haylee is a senior at Metcalfe County High School. MCHS computer science teacher Justin Smith was recognized as the Certified Teacher of the Month, and 21st Century coordinator Hailey Shirley was recognized as Classified Employees of the Month.

Board recognitions are sponsored by RBS Design Group, Glass & Thompson Insurance, and American Fidelity.

The next board meeting is Thursday, June 3, 2021, at 6 pm.
