Metcalfe County Board Meeting Summary
EDMONTON, Ky. (November 13, 2019) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
At the meeting, Superintendent Benny Lile announced his pending retirement from Metcalfe County Schools effective June 30, 2020. A graduate of MCHS, Lile started his teaching career at North Metcalfe Elementary, worked for the Kentucky Department of Education, spent 19 years in the Barren County School District, and then returned to Metcalfe County as superintendent in 2013. The process of selecting Dr. Lile’s replacement will begin immediately.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the 2019 financial audit, approved the KETS (Kentucky Technology Education Systems) first offer of assistance for fiscal year 2020 in the amount of $11,826, approved a request to surplus various technology items, approved an RFP (request for proposals) for a drug testing service, approved a new contract with TJ Samson for school nurses for the remaining of the 2019-20 school year, and approved the creation of an Esports team.
Grant writer Torrie Osbon presented the board with a check for $25,000 from the Bayer Fund and “America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education” program. Local farmers, Lynn Hawkins and Stacey Slinker, nominated Metcalfe County to apply for the grant. The funds will be used to expand the district’s Farm to School program, which will incorporate more STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities into the curriculum.
In addition, the board recognized “Student of the Month” Hadley Blaydes. Hadley is a first-grade student at Metcalfe County Elementary School. The MCES cafeteria staff, Judy Dubree, Darlene Ennis, Bea Jessie, Joyce Reece, Teresa Romines, Mary Rhinehart, Penny Scott, Angie Smith, Laura White, and Jennifer Young, were recognized as the “Classified Employees of the Month.” Ms. Tracy Miller and Ms. Hannah Shaw were recognized as the “Certified Employees of the Month.”
