EDMONTON, Ky. (August 11, 2021) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.
Superintendent Josh Hurt announced to the board that he and his leadership team would review Governor Beshear’s new executive order, which was issued just hours before the meeting. The order requires all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to wear masks inside school buildings and buses.
On the agenda, the board approved 2021-22 property and motor vehicle tax rates. The property tax rate was set at the compensating rate of 52.0, which lowers it by nearly one point from the previous year. The motor vehicle tax will remain the same for the sixth consecutive year at 56.6. Board members also approved the 2021 unaudited Annual Financial Report, Balance Sheets, and Vendor Report.
“We had a good year financially,” Superintendent Hurt said. “It was a bizarre year, but thanks to the hard-working staff in our finance department, we came out good and in a strong position.”
In addition, the district recently received a USDA Farm to School Grant for $81,000, a literacy grant for $25,000, and a $10,000 Kentucky Innovative Learning Network Partnership Grant from KDE.
The board recognized Students of the Month, Claudia Bell and Shelby Thompson. The two MCHS student ambassadors recently won a leadership project competition with their program called “Moving with a Smile,” which collected personal items for children in foster homes.
The board recognized the district’s buildings and grounds crew as the Classified Employees of the Month. And a special gift was presented to bus driver Clayton Judd, who announced his retirement after serving 27 years at Metcalfe County Schools.
Board recognitions are sponsored by RBS Design Group, Glass & Thompson Insurance, and American Fidelity.
The next board meeting is Monday, September 13, 2021, at 6:30 pm.
