EDMONTON, Ky. (April 18, 2022) – Metcalfe County High School is pleased to announce two students have been selected for the 2022 Governor’s Scholars Program.

The Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP) is a summer residential program for rising seniors who have demonstrated outstanding high school careers. GSP started in 1983 with a mission to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders.

Metcalfe County High School student Laura Linkous, the 16-year-old daughter of Mark and Karan Linkous, was selected to the program as a scholar. Whitley Gibson, the 17-year-old daughter of Stevie and Wendy Gibson, was chosen as an alternate.

“Laura and Whitley are accomplished students and respected young members of our community,” MCHS Assistant Principal Rachel Dial said. “The Governor’s Scholars Program will provide them with personal and cultural growth opportunities. They will network with other exceptional students across the state to strengthen their leadership capabilities while developing critical thinking, adaptability, and creativity. The friendships they make at GSP will last a lifetime.”

Students must be nominated by their high schools and then compete statewide to participate in the Governor’s Scholars Program, which will be held at either Bellarmine University, Centre College, or Morehead State University.
