EDMONTON, Ky. (April 18, 2022) – Metcalfe County High School has announced Heidi Coleman will take over as the new head coach of the girls basketball team.
Coleman, a 1994 graduate of Metcalfe County High School, was an assistant coach last season. The Lady Hornets finished with an impressive 20-12 record, were undefeated in district games, and won the 16th District Tournament Championship for the second straight year.
“This is an exciting challenge,” Coleman said. “I’m grateful to give back to the community that raised me and has shown such an outpouring of support over the years. These people are family, and I will do my best to handle this responsibility with enormous integrity and grace.”
Coleman was a standout basketball player at MCHS and a member of the 1,000-point club. She went on to play basketball at Wake Forest University where she led the team in 3-point field goal percentage for four years and ranked 4th in all-time career 3-point field goals made. She was named to the Academic All-ACC Team two years in a row. Following her college career, she worked in sports marketing with Nike and various NBA/WNBA teams.
“It’s about so much more than basketball,” Coleman said. “This is about a culture, shaping lives, and impacting a community. I hope to use both my diverse education and unique experiences to help develop these young ladies in all aspects of life. My vision is for Lady Hornet basketball to go beyond high school and reach all levels of our school system to establish a program culture.”
Metcalfe County High School Principal Clint Graham said, “I am excited to have Coach Coleman leading our Lady Hornets basketball team. Her work ethic and motivation will not only develop basketball players but help our girls grow into young women. She has Division I basketball experience and is very wise on the game. The sky is the limit for our program.”
Coleman is a mental health counselor at the high school and middle school and is the head coach of the Metcalfe County High School boys and girls tennis teams.
