Metcalfe County Board Meeting Summary
EDMONTON, Ky. (March 13, 2019) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.
On the agenda, board members approved three action items. It was also announced during the board meeting, Metcalfe County Elementary School was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from the Kentucky Department of Education. The grant is worth approximately $675,000 during a five-year period. With this grant, all Metcalfe County Schools will be served by the 21st Century after school program this fall.
Metcalfe County’s 2017-18 School Report Card is now available on the district’s website www.metcalfeschools.com. The report card is shared annually with parents and the community to inform them about how the district and each school is performing. Data includes academic performance, educational opportunities, transition readiness and school safety.
It was also announced, MCHS senior William Oberhaus will be competing in the state archery competition on March 15. MCMS 7th grade student Brody Hurt will be competing in the Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee on March 16. And, MCHS sophomore Cesar Magana has been accepted to the Gatton Academy at Western Kentucky University. The Gatton Academy is a two-year residential STEM program for gifted and talented high school students.
The board recognized Macy Welsh as Student of the Month for March. Macy is a sophomore at Metcalfe County High School. She is also a member of the Lady Hornet basketball team and student mentor. MCHS secretary Sherry Keltner was recognized as the Classified Employee of the Month, and MCHS math teacher Angie Tucker was the Certified Employee of the Month.
