December Board Meeting

Metcalfe County Board Meeting Summary

EDMONTON, Ky. (December 18, 2018) – The Metcalfe County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

During the board meeting, Family Court Judge Mica Wood Pence administered the Constitutional Oaths of Office to board members Joey Shive and Donnie Perry. Both new terms begin in January 2019 and will end in December 2022.

On the agenda, board members approved adding a school police department to the district called SLEO which stands for School Law Enforcement Officer. The plan is to have three certified law enforcement officers – one at each school. Those officers will have jurisdiction on school grounds and at some school events held off campus. Job descriptions for the police officers have been posted on the district’s website. The district is awaiting final approval from the state to move forward.

The Metcalfe County Board of Education recognized Johnnie Tarter for his volunteer work with the school system. Johnnie takes photos of Metcalfe County student-athletes during sporting events and shares the pictures with the students and their families. Johnnie was recently honored as a Hometown Hero by WBKO Television; he was nominated by MCHS student Hannah Brown. Board recognitions are sponsored by Alliance Corporation, RBS Design Group, and Glass & Thompson Insurance.

The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at 6pm at the Metcalfe County Board of Education on West Stockton Street.
