The Metcalfe County Middle School baseball field was dedicated in memory of former coach Mr. Ralph Reece on Thursday, April 20.
Mr. Reece began his teaching career at Edmonton High School in 1950. When he started coaching baseball for Metcalfe County High School, he soon became well known and respected among his peers. He continued to teach and coach into the early 1980s. During that time, he influenced many students and players including Gary McMurtrey, who would go on to sign with and play for the Yankees orgainziation in the 70s. McMurtrey attended the dedication and joined Mr. Reece's son Don Allen Reece to throw out the ceremonial first pitches.
Don Allen Reece and his sister Sheryl Reece Gossard were presented framed photos of the scoreboard which reads "Hornet Baseball Ralph Reece Field."
