Preparing for Snow Days

We would like to remind everyone that Metcalfe County Schools are again participating in the Non-Traditional Instructional Day (NTID), or “Snow Day” project. On the days school is dismissed for inclement weather all students should follow the instructions provided by their teachers in order to complete studies and assignments at home. Any day missed for snow directly before or after Christmas break will be considered an NTID day. As always, please contact your child’s school if you have questions.

WKU SPAN Chemistry Class - Distillation Lab

ChemistryChemistry

When the water is so contaminated that you cannot drink it, what could you do to get a pure glass of H2O? Students taking Western Kentucky University (WKU) Dual-Credit “SPAN Chemistry” class at Metcalfe County High School (MCHS) completed a lab investigation of the distillation of contaminated water. In this lab students tested the given contaminated (hard water) for the ions present in the water prior to the distillation, and then after the distillate (pure water) was collected, the same procedures were followed to prove the absence of the hard water contaminates. SPAN Chemistry is so called because this dual-credit class spans the gap between high school and the extremely rigorous college chemistry expectations.
